Why You Should Be Blogging

In a world where social media seems to be the end-all-be-all, you may think that blogging is dead. Wrong! In fact, according to Lyfe Marketing, businesses that regularly publish new content to their website - blog posts - receive eight times more traffic than businesses that don’t blog. It also helps them achieve three times more leads. And more leads turn into more sales. Do I have your attention now?

Blogging has improved my business’s visibility and Google rank. Since I started blogging, my website has become the number one search result for my keywords. And that’s thanks to SEO

Search engine optimization makes your business visible above your competition in search engine results. The way that I do that is by using keywords in my blog posts that I know my customers will search. I also change the alt text in my images to match those keywords so that my images show up in Google Image Search. Both of these tactics help to rank my business higher on the search results page.

But blogging goes beyond ranking. When I set my goals for 2020 I included blog writing on my list because I knew I wanted to provide more value to my clients and show off my work at the same time. It establishes me as an expert in the branding photography field, increasing that trust factor my clients need to pull the trigger and hire me. With my blog posts, I have shown my clients how to plan a Pinterest-worthy photo shoot, how to choose their outfits for a shoot, and three ways to create social media captions that provide value to their audience. These are all subjects that relate to branding photography, but they also give my clients and prospective clients knowledge to help them build their brand.

My clients also use the branding images I’ve shot for them on their blogs to show off their work, product or service and to educate their audience. I love this blog post from House of Paige with the images I took of her favorite frames that she uses for her interior design work. And my client Megan PT uses images to help show potential clients her process as well as inform them on how physical therapy can be beneficial.

Another one of my clients, Derenda Jeffrey of Intentional Living, uses her website to share recipes and ways that her audience can be healthy and happy. It also shows prospective clients how she can help them live intentionally.

Blogging helps you get more eyes on your work, establishes that know, like and trust factor that is so important for a business, and it can provide value. But even with all of the benefits to blogging, I knew I didn’t have the time to do it myself. So I outsourced! I hired my friend and frequent collaborator Kate Andrews, a blogger and journalist, to write my blog posts and since bringing her on I've been on a regular schedule, publishing 13 posts since April. And that consistency is why I’m showing up in the top spot on Google search. So if you don’t have the time to keep updating your site, outsourcing can be a huge help - and that goes for any part of your business!
