Stuck on Captions? 3 Steps to Create Valuable Content for Your Audience!

You have the perfect picture poised and ready and you can’t wait to hit “POST” on Instagram. But then you look at that empty caption space.

What are you going to write?

If you’re a business or brand, you should be using your caption to provide your audience with valuable content.

If you’re reading this and thinking - uhhhh, maybe? And then asking yourself, what the heck is valuable content? - you’re not alone.

Valuable content is anything that leaves someone better off than they were before seeing your post.

This could mean many different things depending on who your ideal client is, who you serve and what your goal is with your social media presence. However, most followers generally want to feel educated, empowered or informed after reading a post. It has to go beyond the pretty picture.

Sure, branding photography is all about beautiful, professional images, but that is how Instagram has evolved. In a sea of pretty pictures, you need to stand out to ensure that your ideal client sticks around after seeing your page.

So, how do you do that? It’s all about the content you pair with your images. Here are 3 simple steps to creating the perfect caption:

1️. First, you must find out who your ideal client is and what their pain points/problems are. The most direct way to gather this information is to survey past clients. You can do this through a quick text, through your email list, or even through an Instagram post or IG story. Now you’re already well on your way to using your social media to help your clients!

2️. From there, come up with solutions to those problems. These don't have to be super in depth solutions, but something that gives them ideas to run with. Example: If you offer  professional organizing services, like Lerner Concierge, and your ideal client is someone who craves order in their life but doesn't have a lot of time to organize, perhaps one solution is sharing a post with "3 Simple Tips that will get You Organized in a Single Weekend!" That is just a title, but you can build off of that! Then repeat that for all the problems you can identify until you have a week's worth of content.

3️. Focus on writing your daily Instagram posts to solve these problems. Then you can reuse that material in blog posts and email newsletters. Boom. Now you’ve got valuable content for all your platforms!
