Case Study - How Brand Images Helped this Online Entrepreneur

When was the last time you refreshed your website? If the answer is, “I don’t remember”, then there is no time like the present which means it’s also time to update your branding photos! A new website can boost business, but you need to make sure that you’re using the right images as well.

But what do you do when your work process isn’t the most visually appealing? That’s the issue I recently came across when working with Courtney Fanning of Big Picture Branding during her website refresh. She booked a branding session while she was redesigning her site so that when she relaunched, she had beautiful new photos that complemented her new layout.

Big Picture Branding helps businesses define their brand and deliver their message. This work is primarily remote and in some cases, she never meets her clients face to face. Furthermore, most of her creative process is done on the computer -  in the digital world. And as much as I love a good laptop shot, you can only try so many angles before your audience starts to snooze.

With this in mind, we walked through my shoot planning process together to create a plan on my Trello board. This included making a shot list for each story that would capture her in her home office - because you don’t always have to rent a space if your home works well with your brand! And we came up with a great solution to make her shoot more dynamic and pull the digital into the physical world.

I had her print out the worksheets she sends to her clients to help them to discover their brand. Then, using her office wall, she physically mapped out her the creative process she takes her clients through! Ultimately, she used these images all over her website, including her updated “Services” page.

If you’re an online entrepreneur like Courtney, pulling out PDFs and other printable items, or even using sticky notes, is a much more visually attractive way to walk an audience through your process. It gives them a better understanding of what it would be like to work with you!

She’s also used her new photos in her newsletters that she sends out to prospective and current clients, successfully repurposing her content!

Her shoot came out great and it really takes her clients through her work process. Just take a look at some more before and after photos of her website!

And speaking of repurposing content, she also took advantage of my Instagram 9-grid, a collage of nine images with caption prompts for Instagram. I offer this service to all of my branding clients and it is so helpful when you’re trying to plan a cohesive Instagram feed and looking for caption inspiration.
