3 Ways to Come up with Content Ideas

There is a reason why people say “Content is King.” Content marketing is an essential part of your overall marketing plan. It helps you build a strong relationship with your target audience and allows you to get the word out about what you offer. It’s basically your chance to help people get to know you and what you do!

But when you’re doing all of the things in your business (as a solopreneur, I know a thing or two about this), it can be a lot of work to keep pumping out content and even more work to come up with ideas of what to post on social media and your blog.

As a branding photographer, I’ve gotten creative with my content marketing. I also co-host a podcast dedicated to making content creation easy called Cocktails & Content Creation. And because I love sharing business tips on my blog, Instagram, and podcast, here are three ways to come up with content ideas.

1) What sorts of questions do you get asked during consult calls?

When I first chat with my clients I get some of the same questions each time.

“Where will we shoot?”

“What types of images should we get?”

I go over the answers with them during our consult, but I have also taken those questions and created blog and Instagram posts to share the answers with those who may be considering booking a shoot with me.

Think about what your clients are asking you when you jump on a call with them, and then consider what content you can create that would answer those questions.

2) What will help your client overcome any objections to working with you?

I know my clients are making an investment when they book a branding shoot with me. And I also know that in booking they’re taking a big step in scaling their business. So I focus on making them feel confident that I will get the photos they need. To show that they’re in good hands, I talk a lot about the process and the results via case studies on my blog.

For those who are unsure of how a shoot will help them create a new business website, I have a case study on how my photos helped an aesthetician update her website. Many of my clients have online businesses so to allow them to picture how we can capture their work in action other than the standard laptop shots, I have a case study on how brand images helped an online entrepreneur. It’s all about showing people the possibilities of the services you offer!

3) How will you connect with your audience?

This is the fun part. Sure, I share tips on entrepreneurship like how I handle running a business, how to set boundaries with client communication, and how to say no if you don’t feel a prospective client is the right fit. After all, I am an entrepreneur just like most of my clients so I know what it’s like to work long hours and weekends during a launch or be glued to my phone, even on vacation, trying to book my next shoot.

But I also share my “weirds” and other personal things like my love of dachshunds, vacation shots, and other aspects of my life, so that people can get to know me. That is the first step of the “know, like, and trust” progression that is so important in converting leads to booked clients.
