Are you going through a website refresh? If you’re creating a new website, it just makes sense that you would also make sure your images go perfectly with the new design! (You can read more about the benefits of booking a branding photographer during your website refresh here.) But did you know that there is more than one type of image that you need to capture? Your website needs more than one picture and you shouldn't use the same type of image over and over! So I’ve put together a list of the 3 shots you need to get for your next brand photography session.

  1. Banner Images

Your website likely has a homepage and there’s a good chance it will have a banner image. Negative space is important here because many times your web design will call for text or a graphic overlay on this image! As you can see from the top photo that I shot for Sorellina Boutique, the image is very “on brand” with the rack filled with clothes from the shop in complementary colors. It is simple and can be cropped to fit varying banner sizes, another important aspect of these types of images, but also allows for text or graphics to be placed on the left side!

When I worked with Shay Lenas of She’s Basically, I grabbed this shot of her laptop and case to showcase some of her beautifully designed products. This multi-hyphenate entrepreneur could use this image as her website’s banner image because it can be cropped or text can be overlaid easily,  and it could also be a supporting image for the other parts of her brand - event planning, luxe stationery, podcasting, and blogging.

2. Headshots

Repeat after me: one headshot is not enough! While you may not love posing for the camera, you will want a variety of headshot options to choose from. Even if you just use ONE, you may want others for marketing collateral or your About Me page. Plus, having a good mix of headshots will give you an opportunity to show up more, allowing you to build the KNOW, LIKE, and TRUST factor with your audience! And we all know that is a great way to warm up your leads for those sales down the road.  ⠀⠀⠀

3. Branded Stock Images

While you definitely want pictures of you so you can show up on your website and your social feeds, you don't need your face on EVERY single image on your website. Branded stock images that can include some of your favorite items, books, flowers or magazine clippings in your brand colors are great for your blog, newsletters, and other promotional materials.
