Website Refresh: A 2-Hour Session with Alana Anderson

Last year I began offering 2-hour sessions to my clients. Prior to that, my lowest package was a half-day session at 4 hours. This was because I found a lot of my clients were interested in not only getting content for their website, but also their social and digital platforms. However, as I continued to grow my personal branding photography business, I realized that some people ONLY need images for their website, or ONLY for their social media. So the 2-hour package was born.  And not long after, Alana Anderson, who works in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) at MIT and is starting her own consultancy, was one of my first client’s to book this session. When she filled out my booking request form, she said she needed photos for a new website so we worked together to plan the perfect 2-hour shoot to get her site up and running.

Alana wanted her shoot to emote a fun, approachable vibe, while still looking professional. As she works in education and her office is literally on the MIT campus, she also wanted her photos to have that academic feel.

First, we shot for about an hour in her office to grab those working shots and headshots. We kept it simple with props such as her laptop, pens, paper and books which contributed to that spirit of academia. This is also where we could take those great headshots that she was able to use on her LinkedIn profile.

I knew Alana also wanted some outdoor images so we planned for some “off-duty” lifestyle images for the second hour of her session. It was fantastic to have the Boston skyline in the back of some of our photos since Alana works in Cambridge, right on the other side of the Charles River.

Having the combination of professional working and headshots, as well as the lifestyle images allowed Alana’s website to come together seamlessly. Check out the screenshots below to see how she is using her new images on her website.

The whole point behind the shoot was to grab headshots, lifestyle shots and professional working shots all while making her look professional yet approachable and I think we nailed it! It was wonderful working with Alana on one of my very first 2-hour shoots.

As an entrepreneur, I know how important it is to keep your website updated. New photos are an essential part of keeping your brand looking fresh and aligned with the visual aspect of your brand. If you are just looking to relaunch with some new content, then you’re only going to need a few images. The 2-hour session is perfect to grab that essential headshot, some lifestyle images and working shots to bring new life to your brand. However, for those who are going heavy on the marketing, posting on social media, or have a large website, the 4-hour session will probably be the best option.
