How long should a personal branding session be?

If you’ve had pictures taken professionally with your family, you’ve likely just done an hour session with them or possibly even less. So when booking a branding session, the thought of a half-day or a full-day of shooting may sound daunting, and even unnecessary. You’re probably thinking, “how long does it take to get a few good pictures?!”

And trust me, there is a reason for those half and full-day sessions, but I also found there is a need for shorter sessions. So this past month I started offering 2-hour branding sessions for my clients. If you’re thinking about booking a branding shoot, but are unsure of whether you need a 2-hour session or a half-day session, I’m breaking down the difference between the two. Because you may ‘think’ you can get away with a 2-hour session when in reality it actually makes more sense for you to go with a half-day.  So to answer your next question, “how long should my personal branding session be?” keep reading! (Hint: the answer depends on what you need!)

Who Should Book a 2-Hour Session

Believe it or not, two hours does go by quickly when you’re talking about a photo shoot. So if you are looking for a few images (shorter session = fewer images) for a website refresh, to change out some older pictures for your static pages, or for your marketing or social materials, a 2-hour shoot may be just what you need. If you want professional photos and don’t need a bunch of outfit changes or location switch-ups, a 2-hour shoot may just fit the bill for your brand. It’s also great for those who need to shoot content on a regular basis.

Who Should Book a Longer Session

If you are creating a whole new website, and need new images for that as well as for posting regularly on social media, a half-day or full-day session may serve your needs better. If you haven’t had a photo shoot for your brand at all, or in a long time, you may want to book more time. And if you want to have pictures taken in multiple outfits and locations, two hours may not cut it. Trust me, the last thing you want is to be stressed about getting in all the looks and locations, so a half-day session gives you extra breathing room to get what you want in a single session.
