Styling a Space: How We Turned a Blank Studio into a Beautiful Set for Key Moment Films

It’s said that a blank canvas has limitless possibilities - and that can’t be more true when it comes to picking a backdrop for a branding/headshot session.

You don’t need a fully decked out lifestyle studio to get the pictures you want. A simple space can be transformed into the perfect setting to complement your business with the right props and lighting. And a branding photographer like Jessie can help identify which props are really going to tell the story of your brand. (Here’s a photographer’s hack: hide the tags on your props during the shoot and return what you don't want to keep afterwards. But shhhh, you didn’t hear that from us!)

There is no better example of taking a simple setting and turning it into an instagram-worthy space than our shoot at The Guesthouse in Hingham, Massachusetts (just 20 miles south of Boston), with Key Moment Films. Here are a few images of what The Guesthouse looked like before we brought our own feel to the space:

Prior to the shoot, Jessie had discussed with Mary and Jamie, the founders of Key Moment Films, about their visual inspiration for their brand. They provided her with a pinterest board full of images that they liked as well as a mood board from their designer, Jessie took it from there by recommending the perfect props, textiles and colors that would tell their story. She used a combination of their brand mood board and Pinterest to collect the visual inspiration.

On the day of the shoot Jessie used all of her preparations as well as the inspiration she received from Mary and Jamie, and went to work styling the The Guesthouse. This is how everything came together:

As you can see, it is all in the details! A neutral rug, a few vases, throw pillows, books in complementing colors, plants, even their cameras - the foundation of their business - captured the vibe of Mary and Jamie’s brand as well as the feel of their website. Not to mention their outfits from Lilly Pulitzer and Vineyard Vines was the perfect choice for their fresh costal mood.
