2 Easy Steps to Slay Your To-Do List
Between running my photography business, managing The Brand Photographer Method, recording for the Cocktails & Content Creation podcast, working on our house, and spending time with my husband and Decoy, our dachshund, my schedule is always jam packed. Now that I’ve shared how setting boundaries has helped me to balance my work and personal life, I’m revealing two easy steps to slaying your to-do list.
Step 1
Write Down All of Your Tasks
And by write it down, I mean on paper, not just in your phone. And by all your tasks, I mean EVERYTHING. I love this inexpensive planner which isn’t just easy to use, it’s also cute - so you can use it in your Instagram photos. And while it seems like an obvious first step to staying organized, it really keeps me on track. It also helps me to remember what exactly I need to do. Best of all? According to Forbes, people who write down their goals (or to-do lists) are more likely to achieve them. Makes it seem like a no brainer, right?
Step 2
Break Down your Daily Tasks
Once you have everything written down, break your list down into daily tasks - things that you have to do today and things that you can push off to tomorrow or the next day. This helps me prioritize and manage my deadlines and it keeps me from getting overwhelmed.
After these two steps, that’s when I start attacking my list!
Taking it to the Next Level
Separate the Monthly, Weekly & Daily Tasks
Moving forward, I've been taking all of those tasks that I’ve written down and tagging them as monthly, weekly or daily tasks. With this in mind, I'm developing a strategy so that I can eventually figure out the best way to batch my work. I’ve been doing this for a few weeks now and once I feel like I have enough data, I’m going to implement a schedule where I take one day where I batch my monthly to-do, such as organizing my blog posts for my writer, and one day a week that I can batch my weekly to do, like writing and scheduling my Instagram posts. This will also set me up so that I can hand it off to an assistant if my schedule gets too hectic - or if I just want to take some time for myself!
And now that you know how to scratch everything off your list, you’ll have plenty of time to add “book a branding shoot” to your to-do!
